Houston, February 23, 2009. Sword made its worldwide launch of Fusion Share here today at the Daratech Plant 2009 conference. Fusion Share is an all-new SharePoint® 2007 add-on application for capital projects that has been developed in partnership with Zachry Engineering Corporation. Sword worked very closely with Zachry Engineering to ensure that Fusion Share meets the real world requirements of any organization conducting capital intensive projects. The first implementation of Fusion Share for Zachry Engineering is currently scheduled for the Spring of 2009.

Fusion Share enhances SharePoint to help organizations that run complex engineering projects such as those found in the construction, energy, oil & gas, utilities, manufacturing and transport industries. These companies produce document portfolios for approval, handover or certification with a significant business impact for late delivery. As engineering on large scale projects becomes a global activity involving multiple disciplines better tools and processes are needed to manage project cost, risk and schedule.

Fusion Share has been developed as a product within SharePoint using standard Microsoft® software tools and techniques. This approach has many advantages over interfacing an external software package via integration with SharePoint. For example, anybody already familiar with the SharePoint user interface can start using Fusion Share immediately as it is the same user interface.

Three key extensions to SharePoint offered by Fusion Share are:

  • Engineering Document Management
  • Document Routing including Transmittal Management
  • Project Dashboard

Information can be accessed from multiple sites, eliminating the need to create physical or electronic copies of documentation and further reducing the risk of using outdated copies. Fusion Share provides a fully audited and compliant environment. This means that all documents, transmittals and document distributions are fully audited and time stamped records are kept for all actions. This makes it easier to track down the cause of changes and delays, reducing the time spent on project claims and making it easy to manage potential conflicts of opinion.

Karl Noakes, Director of Partner Development and Marketing at Microsoft, said: “The 2007 Microsoft Office system is a tightly integrated application platform. It’s great to see partners like SWORD rapidly adopting this technology to build sophisticated products on its elegant architecture.”
