When I log in for the first time to ProjectNet Docs, I am prompted to download Java Libraries. During this installation process, I receive a virus warning from Norton Antivirus.

This will happen if you are using Internet Explorer as your browser and Norton Anti-virus 2000 as your anti-viral application. ProjectNet applets do not contain viruses. This is a false virus detection from Norton.
You should choose to "Ignore" the file and continue with the setup process. This problem does not occur with Netscape Navigator or earlier version of Norton Anti-virus. Symantec has documentation on a fix and work-around for this bug on their web site.

How do I reinstall my Java Library Utility Files on ProjectNet?

With the introduction of ProjectNet 4.2.6, a cookie is used on your machine to determine whether or not the Java Libraries are installed on your system. To force a re-installation of ProjectNet Java Library files, please perform the following:

  1. Point your browser to this link "http://projectnet.cephren.com/ows-bin/owa/remove_cookie" to remove the current cookie.
  2. Delete the file "pnetLocalFileList.dat" located in your "C:WinntJavaLib" directory. (Use C:WindowsJavaLib if you are running Windows 95/98.)
  3. The next time you log into ProjectNet, all the main Java Libraries will be re-loaded on your system.

Problem: When a user logs into ProjetNet for the first time, he may experience a run-time/script error.

Your system is not able to properly install our Java applet. In some cases, upgrading to a later version of Internet Explorer (see System Requirements) and Java Virtual Machine will resolve the problem.

Back to FAQs

I am unable to click on the icons under "New/Changed/Unread Items".

Explanation: The icons displayed on your desktop are intended to indicate any new items on ProjectNet. With the exception of the "Documents" icon, the icons will remain "lit" with a number indicator signifying the number of items which you have access to that are unreviewed. For the "Documents" icon, only items in the past 24 hours will be indicated.

Back to FAQs

While using ProjectNet, parts of the screen remain gray.

Your browser may be trying to read old information from the cache and cannot locate the proper files to load the Java applet.

You need to make sure that your browser is configured in accordance with ProjectNet specifications. Information on browser configuration can be found in the browser setup page. Even if you already setup your browser accordingly in the past, it may be necessary to verify the settings and clear your browser's Cache. For best results, close and restart your browser after changes were made.

If the above resolution does not resolve your problem and you are accessing the Internet using a Proxy Server, proceed to the next step (Netscape Only), "Modify Prefs.js File". If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, skip to the last step, Proxy Caching.

Modify Prefs.js File:

  1. Close all instances of Netscape Navigator
  2. Find your Netscape folder on your local disk. (Normally: C:Program FilesNetscapeusers)
  3. Locate the file 'prefs.js' in your directory.
  4. Load this file using Notepad. (Start>Programs>Accessories>Notepad)
  5. Add this line to the end of the file: user_pref("security.lower_java_network_security_by_trusting_proxies", true);
  6. Save the file and exit Notepad. Load your browser and try to access your documents again.
  7. If the problem still exist, proceed to the next section, "Proxy Caching".

Proxy Caching:

You may be connecting to the Internet through a Proxy server and your network's Proxy settings may be caching web pages. You will need to contact your Network Administrator for more information on disabling web caching on the Proxy Server for our domains.

While using ProjectNet, the status bar of my browser says "Done," but I cannot view the Navigation Bar or the Scrolling Bulletins. In place of the Navigation Bar & Scrolling Bulletin, I see a small icon.

Your browser does not appear to be loading Java Applets. You either do not have Java support installed on your system or your current configuration of Java is corrupted.

Check your browser setup and make sure Java is configured properly. If your browser's configuration seems fine, you may need to re-install Java Virtual Machine. You may upgrade to the latest version of Java Virtrual Machine from Microsoft's web site.

Why is the Repro Shop only able to download one document version from a Print Work Order?

When a print work order contains more than one version of a file (i.e. test.plt uploaded 8/1 and test.plt uploaded 8/8), only the older version of the file (i.e. test.plt uploaded 8/1) is being downloaded when the repro company retrieves the work order.

When creating the Print Work Order, verify that the version to be printed is the only version of that file in the order.

How do you delete more than one document?

To delete multiple files or an entire folder structure. You need to first select the top item (typically the folder). Once you have the folder selected, you could click on the delete button (assuming you have the appropriate security rights). If the folder is not empty, a dialog box will display allowing you to select all files or a selection of files to delete from ProjectNet.

Here are a few tips you may find useful:

  1. If you choose to delete all files within a folder, the folder will be deleted as well.
  2. If you want to delete drawing files, you need to delete all the X-ref files before deleting the master files.
  3. Any document that is attached to a form cannot be deleted.
  4. You can only delete files which you have Editor or 's security to User-Defined to allow the sub-folder and files to have a customized security setting.

Back to FAQs

Why am I unable to change the security of a folder or file?

First, make sure you have the correct security permissions on the folder. If you do, the folder or file may have a Fixed security setting. You need to change the parent folder's security to User-Defined to allow the sub-folder and files to have a customized security setting.

It is possible to conduct a batch conversion of DWG files to TIFF format using the Batch Plot Utility from AutoCAD. To do so, you will need to create a PC2 file (PC3 if you are using AutoCAD 2000) using a raster file export driver. Instructions to create the PC2 file are below:

  1. Select "Printer Setup..." from the File menu (the command line entry is _config). The Preferences window will appear with the Printer tab selected.
  2. Click on the "New" button to create a new plotter configuration.
  3. Select "Raster file export ADI 4.3 - by AutoDesk,Inc" from the list of available printers. Add a description should you want to. Then click OK.
  4. In the AutoCAD Text Window will now appear a list of Support models. Select the resolution you would like to create the files in. The higher resolution, 1600 X 1280, will create the best image. However, this will increase the file size, so select a lower resolution if you are concerned with file size.
  5. Select the raster format TIFF (Tag Image File Format).
  6. Select the color output you want. The higher color selection Color - 256 colors will produce better quality images, but will increase the file size as well.
  7. Specify the color of your image background (0 for black, 255 for white, or any number in between to select a different color shade).
  8. Make any desired changes to the plot origin, area, rotation, hidden line and scaling options.
  9. You now have the plotter option to create a TIFF output. Select that plotter and click the "Save As..." button to create the PC2 file. The PC2 file will automatically import the Pen Table of the current drawing you have open. If needed, you can either change the Pen Table before saving the PC2 file or afterwards by editing the file.
  10. Save the PC2 file to a location on your system. You can also change the name of the PC2 file, i.e. TIFF.PC2, if desired.

You can now associate this PC2 file to all the drawings in the Batch Plot Utility to convert them all to TIF format. Please be aware though, that using this method can sometimes generate a TIFF file with incorrect compression settings which will make the file not viewable on ProjectNet. The resolve this, you will need to reset the compression setting of the file using and imaging application such as WANG's Imaging application standard on all WinNT systems. Instructions to do this on the WANG Imaging application are below, if needed.

  1. Open the file locally on your computer.
  2. Select "Convert" from the "Page" menu.
  3. Select the "Compression" tab.
  4. The compression should be defaulted to "No Compression". Change the compression setting if it is different.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Save the file and re-upload to ProjectNet.

Additionally, as you are converting to a raster format, the clarity of the drawings when zooming in are no longer the same as in the DWG vector format. The result will be more pixilated images as you zoom in to see the details of the drawing. Instructions to create the PC3 file for AutoCAD 2000 should be posted shortly.
